DARJEELING
Moving up from the chicken’s neck, Siliguri corridor, I drove to the vividly green hill station situated on the foothills of the Himalayas, the Darjeeling hills. The magnificent rolling mountains amidst the misty weather had set the high-beat tone for my entire day.
On my way towards the next destination of my performance, I happened to hit the popular Goodricke’s tea spot, named Margaret Deck’s Tea Lounge.
It was exquisitely furnished complimenting the scenic beauty out there. A chock full of joyous masses occupied the area and hence I made a decision to jam there with my quirky live music. I persuaded the manager to concede to my request. The crowd was so full of zeal that they not only got fanatic with the music but also ended up holding the stage making it a karaoke jam. We all sang and danced along with the tunes, making the day stunned in the moment.
I suddenly realised that the noise of the chirpy gathering was unusually calm and soothing to my soul. Maybe it was because of a sense of fulfilment that I felt. Being present there, at that point in time, made me reminiscent of the fact that I was able to achieve what I had believed. I first time drove all on my own through utterly scary hilly roads, and I ended up puncturing my car tires, god knows how many times, but I didn’t give up. I didn’t lose hope in to applause-less crowd. I didn’t give up on times when no one showed up.
I tried and tried and tried. And here I was, up to the hills from where one-half of India gets connected to eight sister states of India, the North East.
The day started nearing to an end when the twilight engulfed in fog started encompassing the city boundaries. I had a performance in my mind but destiny had some other plans for me.
My bookings for the hotel failed, my car went into a serious overhaul, I got lost in the woods of Darjeeling , and I ended up being on the road late at night. That’s when a native there came to my rescue. He helped me to get on the right track with my car in a much better position now. So, in the end, I will only say that “All’s well that ends well”.Because that’s how I ended my ruthlessly tiresome day, with a sweet smile on my face. A smile that I was able to survive the day with a bold face and bold intentions in my heart.
This feeling was beyond everything. Though the day had its own struggles, I made it, that’s what I needed to remember and that’s what I’ll always remember and cherish.
